Northeastern New Mexico

Northeastern New Mexico is where the Great Plains meets the Rocky Mountains. There are a few extinct volcanoes in the area. The wagon ruts left by wagons on the old Santa Fe Trail are still visible in some places.
Two historic sites in Northeastern New Mexico are the Salinas Pueblo Missons National Monument and the Pecos National Historic Park
Salinas Pueblo Missons National Monument is located just southwest of Mountainair, NM. If you plan on visiting this site, the Turner Inn in Mountainair would be an ideal location to stay.
Pecos National Historic Park is locates south of Pecos, NM. A nearby hotel of good quality would be the Santa Fe Sage Inn in Santa Fe, NM. (One might also want to tour Santa Fe, the capitol city, while staying there)
