Southwestern New Mexico is a very mountainous region that is also the location of the wetlands of Bosque del Apache. It is also where countless gold and silver rushes occurred, creating boom towns and leaving behind ghost towns. It is also where the first atomic bomb was set off.
Two historic sites in Southwestern New Mexico are the Trinity Site and Pancho Villa State Park
The Trinity Site, where the first A-bomb was set off, is northwest of the city of Alamogordo. While visiting this area, one can stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Alamogordo.
Pancho Villa State Park is in Columbus New Mexico. The Hacienda De Villa Motel is a good place to stay while visiting this location.
